Fielding Drive Band Agreement Form

2011 Fielding Drive Band Agreement Form

 Dear students and parents,

Welcome to the Fielding Drive band program.  Participating in band is so much more than performance preparation.  It reinforces the importance of self-discipline as the fundamental of healthy self-esteem, group pride, personal satisfaction, and aesthetic joy.  In order to have a successful year, band members are expected to respect the following rules:

1.      Enjoy and have fun playing music.  Music is hard work and requires a certain amount of personal sacrifice.  If you do not enjoy the music or have fun, you are playing for the wrong reasons.

2.      Give the band 100% at all times – in both rehearsals and performances.

3.     Exhibit positive behaviour and an enthusiastic attitude.  Students are expected to self regulate their own behaviour during practises and field trips.  Qualities such as cooperation, concentration, listening to instructions are important for band morale and teamwork.  Three warnings for disruptive behaviour will result in band members being dismissed from the band.
       4.      Believe in yourself and have the confidence to pursue your goals.  To achieve your goals you              must practise your instrument.  If you are unable to make the commitment to practise 30 minutes every day perhaps another extracurricular activity would better suit your needs.

5.      Maintain a positive attitude.  Negative attitudes do not allow you to perform your best nor do they contribute to having fun while playing your instrument.  Positive attitudes make the difference between a beginner musician and an outstanding musician or band.

6.      Accept criticism.  Criticism is given to each musician so that he or she will know their mistakes and be able to correct them thus improving as a player.  Never criticize a fellow band member. As a band, our goal is to help each other become better.

7.      Attend all rehearsals.  Lack of attendance or concentration indicates a lack of interest and little respect for the remainder of the band.  Three or more absences may result in band members being dismissed from the band.

       8.      Attend and play all concerts.  Students are expected to play at all concerts and   competitions.  Please arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled concert time to give sufficient time to warm up as a group.

9.      Please note that playing in the band is a full year commitment.

10.   It is the responsibility of the parents to make arrangements for student pick up at 4:00 pm.  *Please note that the office will be closed at that time.
